Corban's women's basketball team is currently ranked 17th in the nation with a record of 13-3 this season. |
OLATHE, Kan. - Thanks to two straight wins against Cascade Collegiate Conference opponents, Corban’s women’s basketball team remained at its highest ranking ever when the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ (NAIA) coaches’ poll was released earlier today by the national office.
The Warriors are ranked 17th in the nation and stand as the only Cascade Collegiate Conference school ranked in the top 25 in the nation. Corban sits 32 points away from the 16th-ranked Newman (Kan.). Corban received its previous highest ranking (17th) in January of 1996 under former head coach Terry Williams.
So far this season, Corban is averaging 69.6 points per game and is outscoring its opponents by 11.1 points per contest. The Warriors have won eleven of their last thirteen games, including a season-high 6-game winning streak from November 22nd through December 6th.
In sixteen games, Corban is 13-3 and has earned wins over Northwest Christian, Westminster (Utah), Willamette (twice), Holy Names, Dominican (Calif.), Southern Oregon, Oregon Institute of Technology, Western Oregon (twice), Lewis & Clark, Albertson, and Concordia.
Corban was chosen as the pre-season pick to win the Cascade Collegiate Conference title, as fourth-year head coach Dave Bale returned all five starters and 9-out-of-12 players from last season’s team. The 2004-2005 squad won its second conference post-season tournament title ever and made its second trip in the past three seasons to the NAIA national tournament.
