PORTLAND, Ore. - As announced today by the conference office, a trio of Corban fall sports athletes -- James DelCastillo (Fairbanks, Alaska), Karyn Allen (Merlin, Ore.), & Amy Thompson (Oregon City, Ore.) -- were named Cascade Collegiate Conference Players of the Week following their performances last week.

DelCastillo, a junior goalkeeper on the men's soccer team, was named men's soccer conference Defensive Player of the Year while helping Corban remain unbeaten in Cascade Collegiate Conference play with a 0-0 tie against the Coyotes of Albertson last Friday in Caldwell, Idaho. The 5-foot-11 net-minder recorded a game-high nine saves, including a game-saving stop on a 'Yotes penalty kick in the 67th minute to preserve the shutout. So far this season, DelCastillo has appeared in four games (starting two) and has registered a conference and team-best 0.72 Goals Against Average (GAA) while recording 10 saves in 250-plus minutes.

Allen, a junior net-minder for the women's soccer team, was honored as women's soccer conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping lead Corban to a 1-1-0 record last week thanks to a win over Cascade and a heart-breaking loss to the NAIA's No. 8-ranked Concordia. The 5-foot-7 goalkeeper recorded three saves against the Lady Thunderbirds of Cascade en route to picking up her first shutout of the season, while allowing a mere goal and registering a game-high six saves against nationally-ranked Concordia. So far this season, Allen has appeared in seven games (starting six) and recorded a team-best 50 saves in 603-plus minutes en route to registering a GAA of 1.79 to sit eighth in the conference.

Thompson, a sophomore setter on the women's volleyball team, was named conference Setter of the Week as she helped guide the Warriors to a 1-2 record this past week that included a four-game victory over first-year conference member Northwest Christian on Saturday. Against the Beacons, Thompson handed out a career and match-high 71 assists to become only the second Warrior ever to record 70-or-more assists in a single match. The 5-foot-6 setter's single match performance moved her into 3rd place on the Warriors' all-time single match records list for assists joining former Warrior Chris Neely (1997-2000), who registered 70-or-more assists on three separate occasions during her four-year career.

Both DelCastillo and Allen were also honored as NAIA Region I Defensive Players of the Week, while this is the first time in Corban history that three different athletes have been honored as conference Player of the Week at the same time.

All three Corban fall sports teams can be seen in action on Saturday, September 22nd, at home with the women's soccer team kicking off the day against Frontier Conference member Westminster at 12:00 p.m. The men's soccer team will go head-to-head with conference member Warner Pacific immediately following the women's game beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Warrior Field, while the women's volleyball team will end the day's trifecta against nationally-ranked Southern Oregon starting at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
