SALEM, Ore.Larry Casian has announced his resignation after nine seasons at Corban College effective immediately, as announced today by John Nelson, Corban’s Director of Athletics.

In two seasons under Casian, Corban has compiled a 31-56 overall record and 20-37 in Cascade Collegiate Conference / NAIA Region I play, including winning 6 of its last 9 games this season.  Casian took over the program prior to the 2005 season after serving seven seasons as pitching coach for the Warriors.

“It was a tough decision to make,” said Casian.  “I loved working with both the players and the college.  This was a personal choice that I had to make and I made it in the best interest of both the school and my family.”

Casian took over the role of head coach following the resignation of former head coach Paul Gale, who guided the Warrior baseball program for six seasons and advanced to the regional tournament in 2002 and 2003.

“We have a good foundation and high interest in baseball,” said Nelson.  “Larry not only helped to build that, he guided it up into a stronger and deeper program.  His leadership will be missed.”

Casian was the third head coach since the college reinstated the sport back to intercollegiate status in 1988 following a nineteen-year absence.

Corban will begin a search for Casian’s replacement immediately.  Any interested candidates should contact the Corban College athletic office at (503) 375-7021 or send a cover letter, resume, and three references to John Nelson, Director of Athletics.
