PORTLAND, Ore. – Senior Daniel Flores (San Jose, Calif.) earned baseball Player of the Week to go along with junior Brandon Wolters (Gresham, Ore.) and junior Erin Sailors' (Anchorage, Alaska) Pitcher of the Week honors in their respective sports, as announced Monday by the Portland-based conference office.
Flores, a first-year player that transferred from The Master's College for his senior season,
picked up his first-ever Player of the Week award after hitting .346 (9-for-26 at the plate) in the Warriors' six games last week. Flores had at least one hit in every game, collecting three doubles, three home runs, and nine runs batted in. The 5-foot-10 senior led all conference hitters with at least two plate appearances per game played in slugging percentage at .554 and is four behind the league leaders in hits with 33.
Wolters, a third-year player out of Barlow High School,
helped the Warriors to improve to 7-18 on the season, including a key win against Oregon Tech this past week. In his three appearances, Wolters threw 12 innings, giving up seven earned runs on 15 hits. The junior right-hander picked up the win against OIT, his first collegiate victory, scattering six hits and allowing three runs in 6.1 innings of work. Wolters also earned NAIA Region I Pitcher of the Week honors.
Sailors, a third-year player out of
Grace Christian High School, helped lead Corban to a 4-2 record last week that included a three-game winning streak to conclude a hectic six-game home stand for the Warriors. The right-hander was a perfect 3-0 with one save in 22.0 innings of work, as she allowed a mere nine runs (five earned) to go along with her team-high total of 29 strikeouts (avg. 1.32 per inning). Currently, Sailors ranks third in the conference in strikeouts with 99 and first all-time in Warrior softball history with 311 K's. Sailors was also named NAIA Region I Pitcher of the Week, which puts her in the running for the national award that will be announced on Wednesday.
This is the second time this season that Corban has swept the conference Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for baseball, while Sailors takes home the first conference honor for softball by a Warrior this season.
Corban's baseball team is currently 7-18 overall, 4-7 in NAIA Region I play. Meanwhile, the Warrior softball team currently sits at 8-15 overall, 5-7 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. Both teams are in action this weekend, as the baseball team is on the road at the University of British Columbia and softball is at home against The College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon.
