PORTLAND, Ore. – Senior Jessica Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.), senior Mandy Peterson (Portland, Ore.), and junior Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) were named as members of the 2007-08 All-Cascade Collegiate Conference Academic Team, as announced Monday by the Portland-based conference office.
The Warrior trio joined 30 other Cascade Collegiate Conference winter student-athletes that were recognized for their work in the classroom, while appearing in at least 50% of their respective team's contests.
Steigleman concluded her amazing four-year career by earning her third post-season award following the conclusion of her final season as a Warrior. Along with her academic all-conference honor, Steigleman was named to the all-conference team, finished as the runner-up for conference Player of the Year, and earned NAIA All-American honorable mention recognition.
Peterson ended her final season at Corban by earning the second post-season award of her career. Last season, Peterson was named an NAIA All-American scholar-athlete along with a trio of other women's basketball team members.
Douglas adds the all-conference academic honor to his back-to-back all-conference honorable mention honors. Last season, Douglas would have earned NAIA All-American recognition as a student-athlete had the sophomore been eligible.
Both Steigleman and Peterson are education majors, while Douglas is working his way towards a business degree.
To earn Academic All-Conference recognition, student-athletes must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA, reached sophomore standing, and competed in a minimum of 50 percent of their team's contests this winter.
This is the first year that the conference has honored students for their work in the classroom, as well as the athletic side of their respective sport.
