SALEM, Ore. – Former Corban College men’s basketball player Eric Fiegi (Medford, Ore.) offically signed a one-year contract today to play the 2006 season for the Salem Stampede, an International Basketball League team.
The senior All-American and four-time all-conference team member is being touted as a “franchise player” for Salem’s newest sports franchise during its first season of professional basketball in Oregon.
“We’re excited to have signed what we consider a franchise player for our new franchise,” said Stampede owner, Anthony Veliz. “The future looks bright for the team and our fans.”
Fiegi completed one of the most storied local collegiate careers this season and finished second on the all-time career points chart in Corban history with 3,252 points. The 6-foot-9 South Medford High School graduate finished his four-year career as the school’s all-time leader in rebounds (1,252), field goals made (1,256), and blocked shots (283), while leading the conference and nation this season in points per game (30.3) and rebounds per game (13.1). Fiegi’s career field goal number is tops among all NAIA Division II participants and his career point total ranks 2nd individually among all four-year institutions in the state of Oregon.
“I’m really excited to have this opportunity,” said Fiegi. “I’m happy to have this chance to keep playing and to get to continue my career in Salem is great.”
Another former Warrior, Jeff Dunn (Dallas, Ore.), also signed with the Stampede earlier this spring following a two-year stint at Corban from 2003-2005. As a Warrior, the 6-foot-5 guard scored 1,386 points and finished his career 2nd all-time in free throw percentage at 86.1 (236-for-274). The Dallas High School graduate was named NAIA All-American honorable mention and all-conference following his junior and senior seasons, as well as conference Player of the Week on three different occasions.
