Former major leaguer Larry Casian took over the Corban College baseball program in 2005 after serving as the pitching coach for the Warriors the previous five years. In his first season at the helm the Warriors narrowly missed advancing to the postseason and produced an overall 17-28 win-loss record.
Larry played nine seasons (1990-98) in the major leagues with Minnesota, Cleveland, Chicago Cubs, Kansas City and Chicago White Sox. He earned a world championship ring when the Twins won the World Series in 1991. Prior to joining Minnesota, he pitched two seasons for the Portland Beavers, then the Twins’ Triple-A affiliate.
Primarily a reliever, Larry pitched in more than 200 major league games and compiled a 4.56 earned run average. He played with hall of fame inductees Kirby Puckett and Dave Winfield (Twins), Ryne Sandberg (Cubs) and George Brett (Royals). Larry was part of two historic major league highlights. He popped-up Ken Griffey Jr. to end the slugger’s bid for his eighth home run in as many games and was with Winfield when he got his 3,000th hit.
Larry completed his collegiate playing career at California State University-Fullerton in 1987 and looks forward to the opportunity of being a head coach at the college level. “If we have top quality practice and prepare for each game, we will have success on the field,” Larry said. “We also want to show the other teams and fans that young Christian athletes will compete to win as hard as anyone, but will be humble and gracious in defeat or victory.”
Larry recently completed his degree at Corban in the areas of management and communication, and is a lead operations technician for a flooring company. Larry and his wife, Michelle, have two daughters, Kayley and Lindsey. He enjoys golf and staying involved in his children’s activities.
