CALDWELL, Idaho – Four Corban baseball players were named to the All-Cascade Conference team, as the Warriors had seven players represented on both the all-conference and Gold Glove teams when the squads were announced earlier today.
For the second year in a row, Corban's baseball team placed four players on the 1st team with senior Jeremy Frantz (Medford, Ore.) leading the way thanks to being named as an all-conference member for the second straight season as a designated hitter.
Along with Frantz, junior Jamie McGraw (Gaston, Ore.) was placed on the first team as an outfielder after earning honorable mention last season. Sophomore Craig Spicer (Vancouver, Wash.) and freshman Josh Warner (Independence, Ore.) garnished their first all-conference honors as a second baseman and outfielder respectively.
Senior short stop Ryan Heil (Medford, Ore.) and senior relief pitcher Scott Fitchett (Sandpoint, Idaho) earned all-conference honorable mention.
“I am proud of the guys who earned all-conference honors, as we had a host of players that could have been named to the team this season,” said first-year head coach Nate Mayben. “Every player that donned the Warrior uniform this season represented the college and program to the best of their ability, while honoring the Lord by being true men of character."
Frantz led the Warriors in batting average (.347), doubles (14), slugging percentage (.460), and on-base percentage (.407), while appearing in twenty games as a designated hitter. Meanwhile, McGraw registered the most hits (56) and stolen bases (16), while tying with Spicer for the most runs scored with 23. Spicer had the most at-bats (167), the highest number of total bases (71), and led the team in home runs (2), while finishing second in assists with 103. Warner tied for the team lead in sacrifice flies with three and started 37-out-of-39 games in right field.
Heil was second on the team in runs (22), walks (14), hit by pitch (4), and stolen bases (15), while leading the Warriors in assists with 108. Fitchett, who is the lone four-year member of the Warriors' pitching staff, heads in the final weekend of the regular season leading the team in Earned Run Average (4.93), appearances (29), wins (4), and saves (3), while sitting second in complete games (2) and innings pitched (80.1).
On the first-ever Cascade Collegiate Conference Gold Glove team, Corban placed a trio of players -- senior Brett Timmerman (Medford, Ore.), Spicer, and Heil. Timmerman is currently the team leader in putouts with 217, while recording only one error in 243 chances to lead the team in fielding percentage at .996. Spicer, who platooned between second base and short stop, recorded 103 assists to go along with 87 putouts in 198 chances. Heil led the team in assists with 108, while registering 72 putouts in 190 chances. The middle infielder duo combined for 18 errors in 388 chances en route to earning a combined fielding percentage of .954.
Corban will conclude its regular season this weekend when the Warriors travel north to Portland for a pair of double headers against conference rival Concordia on Friday (May 4th) and Sunday (May 6th) beginning at 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. respectively.
