SALEM, Ore. – Sophomore Jordan Emery (Salem, Ore.) pitched a complete game and junior Jeremy Frantz (Medford, Ore.) drove in 4 runs, as Corban’s baseball team picked up its first win in two weeks thanks to an 11-3 victory over the Hustlin’ Owls of Oregon Tech at Warrior Field.

Emery threw 127 pitches over his 9.0 innings of work, allowing 3 runs (all earned) on 11 hits and struck out 5 Owl batters.  The 6-foot-3 right-hander picked up his team-leading 3rd win of the season and registered his third complete game in the process.

Frantz began Corban’s scoring in the 1st inning when he connected on his 4th home run of the season over the right-center field wall that scored sophomore Jamie McGraw (Gaston, Ore.) and senior Brian Nelson (Lebanon, Ore.)

The Warriors tacked on 4 more runs in the 3rd inning when senior Jesse Gaylord (Portland, Ore.) laced a 3-run single to centerfield with the bases loaded, scoring McGraw.  Nelson and freshman Rondie Taylor (Clackamas, Ore.) also scored following an error by the Owls’ center fielder.

Oregon Tech got on the board in the 4th inning when first baseman Anthony Baca belted his 2nd home run in the past two days over the left field wall, scoring right fielder Derek Bodeen in the process.

Corban came back with 3 more runs in its half of the 4th when sophomore Darren Johnson (Vancouver, Wash.) roped a double to left-center scoring McGraw.  One batter later, Frantz connected on his second hit of the day – a double down the left field line – that scored Johnson.  Gaylord then collected his 3rd RBI of the day on a sacrifice line out to right field that scored Nelson from third.

McGraw capped the Warriors’ scoring in the 5th inning when he belted his 2nd home run of the season just clearing the left field wall into Corban’s bullpen.

Oregon Tech scored their 3rd and final run in the 7th inning when Derrick Draper beat out an infield single that scored Chris Curtis from third.

The Warrior bats roughed up six OIT pitchers beginning with starter Kyle Koontz, who last a mere 2.1 innings, allowing 7 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits.  Ty Combs, Josh Strom, Juan Cano, Ryan Henry, and Robbie Mott complete the Owls’ pitching, as they pitched 5.2 innings, allowing 4 runs (all earned) on 6 hits.

Frantz finished the day 2-for-4 with 1 runs scored and 4 runs batted in, while Nelson was a perfect 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored.  McGraw, junior Ryan Heil (Medford, Ore.), and sophomore Scott Flux (Salem, Ore.) collected 2 hits apiece, as McGraw and Johnson scored 3 and 2 runs respectively.

Corban improves to 7-18 overall, 2-13 in NAIA Region I action.  Oregon Tech falls to 9-13 overall, 5-8 in NAIA Region I play.  The Warriors are next in action on Tuesday, April 11th, when they match up in a single game with NCAA Division III member Pacific (Ore.) beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Forest Grove.
