BOX SCORE - GAME #1 | GAME #2
CALDWELL, Idaho – Corban's baseball team dropped back-to-back conference games to the Coyotes of Albertson College of Idaho, 9-1 & 2-0, on Saturday at Simplot Stadium.
GAME #1 - ALBERTSON 9, CORBAN 1
Corban jumped out to an early one-run lead as sophomore Jamie McGraw (Gaston, Ore.) scored on an RBI single by junior Jeremy Frantz (Medford, Ore.) in the 1st inning, but the Warriors could not hold onto their first lead of the series falling to Albertson, 9-1, in the opener.
Neither team scored again until Albertson plated three in the 3rd and followed up with three more in the 4th against the Warriors’ starting pitcher sophomore Jordan Emery (Salem, Ore.).
McGraw had two hits and two stolen bases for Corban, but only four other Warriors managed a hit each. Emery registered his second complete game of the year, giving up 9 runs (6 earned) on 10 hits over six innings.
GAME #2 - ALBERTSON 2, CORBAN 0
Freshman pitcher Jason Braun (Dallas, Ore.) worked six solid innings and limited Albertson College of Idaho to just two runs, but Corban couldn’t produce offensively, as the ‘Yotes won 2-0 over the visiting Warriors in the second game of a double header to complete a three-game sweep of the visitors in conference action at Simplot Stadium .
Prior to Braun’s performance, Albertson had racked up 28 runs on 29 hits through the first two games between the two squads. Corban’s 6-foot-5 right-hander limited the NAIA’s 27th-ranked ‘Yotes to five hits and solo runs in the 1st and 4th innings, while striking out three in the losing effort.
The Warriors were limited to just five hits, with senior Jesse Gaylord (Portland, Ore.) being the only Corban player with two hits. Albertson’s Carson Taysom picked up the win, yielding only two hits over five innings as Corban stranded seven runners through the 9-inning contest.
Sophomore Derek Stokes (Anchorage, Alaska) and junior Zeke Clayton (Myrtle Creek, Ore.) finished out the contest for the Warriors, both throwing one inning each without giving up a run. Stokes worked the 7th and struck out two, and Clayton pitched the 8th fanning one Albertson batter.
With the losses, Corban falls to 4-10 overall, 1-6 in NAIA Region I play. Albertson improves to 16-6 overall, 6-4 in regional action. The Warriors are next in action on Tuesday, March 21st, when they play host to the Boxers of Pacific University at 3:00 p.m. at Warrior Field.
