Student Residence

Historically known as a ‘schools and garrison town,’ Amberg is highly supportive of education, drawing students from around the region to its many Hochschulen (boarding schools) for grades 9-13 and college. Amberg and the state of Bavaria are staunchly pro-American. Also situated near Amberg are three large American military bases, facilitating strong German-American relationships while adding considerable revenue to the local economy. AmbEx students will be warmly welcomed by the citizens of Amberg, the U.S. military community and local German and American evangelical churches. Due to the large and growing population of Americans in this area, several like-minded English and German speaking churches are close by. Their pastors, missionaries and congregations are very supportive of having an AmbEx extension campus and resource center in their backyard.

Classroom

The Free Christian Church (German/Russian) of Amberg provides classroom and administrative space to AmbEx. The classroom is seminar style with tables and chairs and equipped with a data projector, white boards, and visual aids. Other facilities include a business office, additional classrooms, bathrooms, shower, laundry, kitchen and a large, fully furnished dorm room. The facility includes wireless internet and copier services.

Living

The private apartments include furnished bedrooms, full bathroom(s), and kitchen/dining/family rooms. The dormitory includes a large bedroom with bunk beds and closets. The facilities also include bathrooms, shower(s), laundry, and kitchen areas. Students at either location will be within walking distance of shopping, dining, libraries, gym, parks, indoor swimming, churches and much more. Public transportation and bicycles are alternative ways of getting around town. German laws, e.g. quiet hours, are respected. Visiting professors will be accommodated in a separate apartment or local hotel facility.

MEALS: Breakfast and lunch will be served at the dormitory. Breakfast is buffet-style, self-serve while lunch is catered. Students receive a meal-voucher which may be used at local restaurants and bistros for their evening meal.

LAUNDRY: Laundry facilities are on the premises but may require flexibility around peak times of use. A wash load cost is $2.50; dryer load is $2.00. Additionally, within a 10’ walk is a public coin operated laundry “Wascherei”—Fleury Str. #22. One large load costs approximately $4.00.
