Semester Abroad Program Summary
The Semester Abroad program is the principal ministry of AmbEx, providing classroom and off-site academic instruction built upon a rigorous God-centered curriculum that integrates critical components of a comprehensive biblical worldview. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to deepen the students' understanding of important theological truths toward a greater appreciation of the person and redemptive work of God, His creation, and a greater assurance and ability to adequately defend and proclaim the Gospel in a post-Christian, post-modern culture.
Additional Activities:
Beyond the Field trips and Lectures
Spiritual growth includes knowledge and application, both love of God and love of neighbor. Both in and outside of the classroom, AmbEx facilitates a rich variety of activities that are integral to the overall learning experience of the Semester Abroad program.
Activities outside of the classroom provide opportunities for spiritual growth in the practical application of truth learned in the classroom. Students will be encouraged to utilize their gifts in serving others during their semester abroad, to be vessels in the Lord's hand to reach the heart of our German, American, Slavic, Moslem, etc., neighbors. Activities for rest and relaxation will also be available. Some of the prospective activities include:
•German-American Partnership (i.e. KONTACT and the Amberg Student Network)
• School and Dorm Open House—Coffee, Tea, Cocoa, Cake & Cookies
• Academic Exchanges e.g. Book Club, Pen Pal, Music, Math, Chess, etc.
• Travel and Excursions (Recreational and Academic)
• Recreation–Volksmarching, Bicycling, Canoeing, Horseshoes, Hiking
• Sports and Athletics Exchange–Softball, Soccer, Swimming, Squash, Tennis, Ping Pong, etc.
• Games–Indoor and Outdoor
Local Church Involvement
Overlaying the academic semester is worship and ministry involvement with the local church(es). Soon after arriving students will be able to pair up with a local church. AmbEx students will have considerable impact and dividends as they apply their knowledge, skills, abilities and heart to children, spouses, single soldiers, outreach efforts, etc., and practical use e.g. facility and grounds maintenance, etc. The following churches provide opportunities for fellowship and ministry:
• High Point Baptist Church "Vilseck" [English language]
• Army Chapels (Grafenwoehr, Vilseck, Hohenfels) [English language]
• Grace Baptist Church "Grafenwoehr" [English language]
• Free Evangelical Church "Amberg" (German & Russian)
Community Service
As a testimony and expression of Christian love, AmbEx students will have the opportunity to serve their hosts/neighbors in a tangible way e.g. handy work, visitation (orphanage, retirement homes, refugee's compound, boys & girls club), humanitarian and other opportunities.
Hospitality House
The AmbEx facility will also be used for fellowship, cultural exchange and outreach to various nationalities and ethnic groups e.g. German, Russian, Persian, Sudanese and others. |
