| Alumni Golf Tourney Sees 100 Golfers Raise $5K+ |
The weather was perfect for 100 golfers a the 2003
Alumni Golf Tournament, Sept. 19, at the Salem Golf Club. More than
$5,000 was raised as alumni and supporters hit the links for a day fun,
relaxation and golf.
Tournament organizer Nancy Wolfe said the event was a wonderful success.
"We were all very pleased. The Lord provided us with a beautiful
day, plus we had enthusiastic golfers and some great volunteers to make
it all come together," she said. "By adding the three handicap
divisions we were also able to present more people with prizes which
made it even more fun."
Golfers teed off at 1 p.m. playing in a scramble format. No golfer aced
the par 3 third hole where a $10,000 cash prize went to anyone who could
roll their tee shot into the cup. The closest drive to the pin was Dr.
Bob Wright who placed his shot within 30 inches of the hole.
After completing 18 holes, the participants remained at the Club for
the presentation of prizes during the outdoor picnic dinner. Doug Beals,
WB's Director of Development, had high praise for the golfers who played
in this year's tourney and for the loyal supporters and co-organizers
of the event.
"We appreciate the continued support of Jack
Werre and the prizes he donates to this event," Doug said. "The
help of Pat Nicholson, Dick Hammond and Corkey Lambert was also invaluable.
And Nancy Wolfe and her crew really added so much to the event."
The money raised will help to bolster the student scholarship fund.
