Adult Degree Financial Aid
In the Adult Degree Programs the majors are divided into four semesters for financial aid purposes. The cost of delivering a degree completion education is lower than for traditional programs, so consequently the tuition charge is less. For this reason, we do not offer any institutional aid for our degree completion programs. Students enrolled in our programs are qualified for federal aid and in some cases Oregon state aid. If you wish to borrow Federal Stafford Loans or see if you are qualified for a Federal Pell Grant, you need to complete a Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The Corban College FAFSA code is 001339. We also award other types of Federal Aid to those who qualify if funding allows.
FAFSAs can be completed after January 1 prior to each school year. Classes that begin in the fall and winter typically will have the first two semesters placed in one FAFSA award year and the last two semesters in a second FAFSA year. Classes that begin in the spring typically require three FAFSAs.
For example classes that start in the fall or winter;
| First FAFSA | Second FAFSA | ||
| Semester 1 |
Semester 2 |
Semester 3 |
Semester 4 |
Classes that start in late winter or spring;
| First FAFSA | Second FAFSA | Third FAFSA | |||
| Semester 1 |
Semester 2 |
Semester 3 |
Semester 4 |

When we see that you have applied for admission to the Adult Degree Program, and we have your FAFSA information, we will mail an award letter to the address on your FASFA to let you know what aid you qualify for. Most students are qualified for $5,250 in Stafford loans for each semester of the program. Depending on the FAFSA information $2,750 of that could be a Subsidized Stafford Loan. This amount of loans is more than the cost of tuition, so you can get money back from our Business Office for living expenses and other educational related costs. We will award the maximum amount of Federal loans that you qualify for. After receiving your initial award letter from us, you can let us know if you do not wish to borrow that much.
After receiving an award letter, read it carefully and submit any additional documents we need to complete your file. Then you should contact our Business Office at 503-375-7030 to inform them what your plan is to pay for tuition. You can make a lump sum payment, monthly payments, borrow loans or any combination of these.
Many of our students need to take classes in addition to the normal degree completion program in order to complete the required number of credits to graduate. Typically these classes are taken through our Weekend College or Online courses during the time the student is enrolled in the standard four semester program. If you think you will need to take some of these classes after your normal program is completed (after the fourth semester is done) and you need aid to help pay for them, we suggest that you borrow enough while you are attending a normal semester to cover the future costs you project needing to complete those classes.
If you have completed your standard four semester program, and you find yourself needing to complete a large number of credits to graduate, we may be able to award financial aid. Awarding aid to students taking a series of Weekend college or Online courses is a rather complicated process but we do our best to accommodate those situations on a case by case basis if possible.
It is also important to note that the first three semesters in the BOL program and the first two in Family Studies are considered 3/4 time enrollment for financial aid purposes. If you are qualified for a Pell Grant, it will be calculated at 3/4 time. If you take a Weekend College or Online class that falls cleanly inside one of these semesters, you may be able to move to full time status in that semester and receive additional Pell. For low income Oregon residents who qualify, the full Oregon Opportunity Grant amount is awarded to full time students and half of the full time amount is awarded to students enrolled 1/2 time or 3/4 time. Students qualify for the full amount of Stafford Loans as long as they are considered 1/2 time students.
We are here to help you understand the financial aid process. Please contact us if you have any questions or need further clarification along the way. You can email us at financialaid@corban.edu or call us: 503-375-7006.
