Adult Degree Program Testimonies

Brian Kauffman, M. Ed., MAC graduate
Completing my bachelor's degree from Corban established a strong foundation for me as a Christian leader.  It was not just about getting a piece of paper; it was about making a difference in my workplace and home.  My experiences in the MAC program have strengthened my Christian values and beliefs and have prepared me to be a strong Christian leader.

At work my MAC experience has given me both the confidence and ability to work in a leadership position where I can make a positive difference.  In my personal life I have found that being a Christian leader at home is also essential. Having five young children I have recognized how important it is to be a role model and a family leader committed to Christ.  My MAC experience has reinforced the importance of this.  The MAC program has prepared me well to meet many of the challenges that I have and will face today and in the future.  It was a life changing!

Nancy L. Young,  CPA, MBA, MAC graduate
The decision to complete my degree was a pivotal decision at a key time in my life. I was a single mom with two small children and I knew that in order to provide for my family I needed to take action. While at the time I did not see how I could afford the tuition on a single income, in the long run I knew I could not afford to not take this step. Having established a new vision for my future, I enrolled in the MAC program at Corban College.

During the course of the MAC program I was continually challenged to grow both personally and professionally. As each instructor invested in my development in a unique and individual way, I experienced not only an education but a renewed sense of self-worth and accomplishment. WBC changed my heart as well as my mind. The MAC program brought me to new heights and became the bridge to connect me with my vision for a better future.

Upon graduation, I was offered and accepted a position with the Secretary of State Audits Division and within two years I earned certification as a Certified Public Accountant. Since that time I have earned additional certifications, have gone on to a private accounting firm, and have completed an MBA.

While I continue to look for the next challenge I often reflect back to that pivotal decision of completing my degree and the significant role WBC and its instructors played in my success. I am eternally grateful.

Charles D. Lucas, P. C., MAC graduate
I received a foundational, Christ-based education which served as a significant stepping stone into my admission to law school and my future as an attorney. The courses were timely, relevant and challenging, and each instructor brought to the class not only a wealth of information and expertise, but a willingness to explore the opinions and thought processes of the students. Course selections were often difficult because there were so many great options being taught by folks I’d grown to love and respect.

During my years at the school and in the time since, the administration, faculty and staff have time and again proven themselves willing to go above and beyond what most schools offer. Simply put, these folks truly love their jobs and show it on a daily basis! They are readily accessible and dedicated to meeting the needs of their students. At Western, the atmosphere of the school – from the president’s Office down to the gardening staff – cares about you as a person, your progress as a student, and your walk with God.

I cannot encourage you strongly enough to seriously consider and pray about furthering your education at Corban College. Like the many of us who have passed before, you will receive a top-quality education, grounded in the love and grace of Jesus Christ. You’ll emerge with a smarter brain, a stronger heart, and a lifetime of wonderful memories on your way to becoming the person He wants you to be.

Teresa Gutermuth, Family Studies Program
As a recent graduate of the Family Studies Program, I am quite pleased with the preparation for graduate school I received during my course of studies there.    As a result of the good writing training I received as a student at Corban, I may be the only one in my class proficient in APA style formatting.

I've made 99 on both of my major papers with only one left to do.  Most folks are having their papers returned for corrections. I give credit to Corban and to Christ for the thorough preparation.

I am excited as next quarter I will be taking Theories of Personality and Counseling, subjects in which I am very interested.

I've used some of the handouts from Corban and the texts for my references and expect to continue to do so.  Thanks so much for providing such a quality education!

Glynes Dishman, Family Studies Program
As a single mother of two girls, I am employed at a Christian High School as a librarian. Every year our administrator asks us how we will further our education.  He knew I did not have a college degree and suggested that I look into the college where I attended years ago to see if they might offer some online courses.

I took his suggestion, and was very pleasantly surprised to see that Corban College offered adult online degree programs. It seemed like the perfect solution to attain my dream of a college degree.  I could continue my education with Corban (even if it was 30+ years later!) and do it online as I continued to work and live out of state.

I signed up for the Family Studies Program that started in January of 2007. After attending the 3 day orientation program on campus that January, I knew this was what the Lord wanted me to do. Even though it seemed very overwhelming to me I felt this is what I needed to do.

The people in the program were extremely helpful and encouraging and made us feel as though we could do this. That was the confirmation I needed to pursue this program. As of October 2007 I am now half way through the Family Studies Program, and must admit that it has been one of the most fulfilling, challenging, rewarding and healing things that I could have ever done for myself.

Our professors have been so helpful and encouraging and that is exactly what I needed to keep me going.  I still have several other classes to take to fulfill my needed requirements to graduate, so I may not graduate till next December even though the online program will be completed in May of 2008.

I don’t know how the Lord will use this degree once I attain it, but I know He has a plan.  Until then, I am thoroughly enjoying the program and the process of learning, growing, healing, and gaining confidence each step of the way!

Julia Schmidt, Family Studies Program
About five years ago, I felt the Lord leading me to pursue a degree in counseling. I knew it had to be God’s idea because I was terrified of college! I began studies at a local community college and also began to seek the Lord’s leading about where to continue my studies.

After spending a summer in prayer wrestling over several ideas about college education, it became clear that God was calling me to seek the most biblically sound education possible.  It was at this point I knew Corban was where I ought to apply.

The school’s motto, “Dedicating Heart and Mind to God,” is exactly what I desire for my own life. My experience at Corban has been great. From the very first day I saw how caring the staff and instructors are. They reassured me when I was scared, encouraged me, and stretched me beyond what I thought I could do.

The fears that I felt at the beginning of the program have been gradually replaced by a sense of confidence—confidence that God is going to complete what He has begun in me. In spring, I will graduate from the Family Studies program. I am going to miss my classmates so much! They have become my friends as we have shared our struggles and victories together.  I know that as I look back on my time at Corban it will be with gratitude to God that He allowed me to enjoy such a rich experience.
